SPARK PLUG
WARNING: Access to the spark plug is extremely restricted on some scooters. Ensure the engine and exhaust system are cool before attempting to remove the spark plug.
CHECK AND ADJUST
- Make sure your spark plug socket is the correct size before attempting to remove the plug - a suitable plug spanner is usually supplied in the scooter's tool kit.
- As required, remove the engine access panel or storage compartment to access the spark plug (see Chapter 8).
- Pull off the spark plug cap, then ensure the spark plug spanner is located correctly over the plug and unscrew the plug from the cylinder head (see illustrations).
- Inspect the plug electrodes for wear. Both the center and side electrode should have square edges and the side electrode should be of uniform thickness. Look for excessive deposits and evidence of a cracked or chipped insulator around the center electrode. Compare your spark plug to the color spark plug reading chart at the end of this manual.
